Qualifications
Candidates must possess the minimum educational qualification prescribed for the relevant post from a recognized Board, University or Institute. The required qualification must be obtained on or before 13 November 2026, the closing date for online applications.
- Candidates should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination where prescribed for the relevant post.
- For posts carrying the 50% aggregate marks requirement, candidates must satisfy that condition unless covered by an exemption specified in the notification.
- The notification provides exemptions from the 50% marks requirement for SC/ST candidates, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, Ex-Servicemen and candidates possessing qualifications higher than 12th standard, as specified in the post parameters.
- Candidates awaiting the final results of the prescribed qualifying examination are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must also satisfy the applicable medical standards and other post-specific conditions.
Educational qualification alone does not guarantee eligibility. Candidates should carefully check Annexure A of CEN No. 07/2026 for the exact qualification and additional conditions applicable to their chosen post.
Post Wise Qualification
1. Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk
The prescribed minimum qualification is 12th standard (+2 stage) or an equivalent qualification with at least 50% aggregate marks. The 50% marks requirement is not insisted upon for the categories and higher-qualification cases exempted in the official notification. This post is placed in Pay Level 3, with an initial pay of ₹21,700 per month. The notified medical standard is B-2.
2. Accounts Clerk cum Typist
Candidates must possess 12th standard (+2 stage) or an equivalent qualification with at least 50% aggregate marks, subject to the exemptions specified in the CEN. The post carries Pay Level 2 and an initial pay of ₹19,900 per month. The medical standard is C-2. Candidates should be prepared for the applicable typing skill test and verify the prescribed typing speed and other requirements in the detailed notification.
4. Trains Clerk
Candidates must meet the educational qualification prescribed in Annexure A of the notification. The post is placed in Pay Level 2, with an initial pay of ₹19,900 per month, and carries medical standard A-3. Since this medical standard includes specific visual requirements, candidates should carefully review the relevant medical fitness provisions before indicating this post as a preference.
Note: The detailed notification and its annexures are the final reference for educational qualifications, typing requirements, medical fitness, suitability conditions and post preferences. Do not rely solely on this summary when deciding eligibility.
Age Limit
The prescribed age limit for these posts is 18 to 30 years as on 1 January 2027, subject to the applicable category-wise age relaxation and conditions in CEN No. 07/2026.
| Category | Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC/ST | 5 Years |
| OBC-NCL | 3 Years |
| PwBD – UR/EWS | 10 Years |
| PwBD – OBC-NCL | 13 Years |
| PwBD – SC/ST | 15 Years |
Additional provisions apply to certain Ex-Servicemen, eligible Railway employees and specified categories of widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried. Such candidates must meet the applicable conditions and provide the required supporting certificates.
Where a candidate qualifies for more than one age relaxation, the notification generally permits the maximum applicable relaxation rather than adding all relaxations together. Candidates should refer to the official age-relaxation table before applying.
Application Fee
| Category | Examination Fee | Refund on Appearing in CBT 1 |
|---|---|---|
| All other candidates | ₹500 | ₹400, after applicable bank charges |
| SC/ST/Ex-Servicemen/PwBD/Female/Transgender/Minorities/EBC | ₹250 | ₹250, after applicable bank charges |
The refund is applicable only to candidates who appear in the first-stage Computer Based Test (CBT 1), subject to the notification's conditions. Candidates who do not appear in CBT 1 should not expect a refund under this provision.
Payment must be made online through the permitted payment modes, including internet banking, debit card, credit card or UPI. Applicable service charges may be payable by the candidate.
Important: EBC, EWS and OBC-NCL are three distinct categories. Economically Backward Class (EBC) status under this notice provides an examination-fee concession; it does not, by itself, provide reservation in recruitment.
Selection Process
The selection process will be conducted according to the recruitment rules and stages specified in the official notification. Candidates should read the relevant provisions carefully because the requirements may vary according to the post.
- First Stage CBT: Candidates appear for the first-stage Computer Based Test. Normalized marks are used where applicable for shortlisting.
- Second Stage CBT: Candidates shortlisted according to the notified criteria proceed to the second-stage Computer Based Test.
- Typing Skill Test: Applicable to the typist posts, namely Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist, subject to the conditions in the notification.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must produce original documents supporting their educational qualifications, date of birth, category and other claims.
- Medical Examination: Candidates must meet the prescribed medical fitness standard for the post allotted to them.
- Final Empanelment: Final consideration depends on merit, applicable reservation, post preferences, medical fitness and vacancy availability.
The notification specifies negative marking of one-third of a mark for every incorrect answer in the CBT examinations. Candidates should prepare using the subjects and examination structure given in the official CEN.
